A platform built for the endlessly curious
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."
— attributed to Saint Augustine
Rihla exists to help you read more pages. Not just tourist highlights — but the stories, the history, the art, the food, the languages and the living cultures that make each place on earth utterly unique.
Rihla was founded in 2021 by a group of writers, historians and designers who felt that the internet had become very good at telling people where to eat — and very bad at telling them why a place matters.
"We wanted to build the cultural guide we always wished existed."
Starting with deep dives into North African history and the Amazigh heritage of Algeria, Rihla grew into a platform covering over 60 destinations across 5 regions — with a particular focus on cultures and histories underrepresented in mainstream travel media.
Today, Rihla is read by over 50,000 curious readers monthly, and our team of 12 researchers and writers spans four continents.
Historian specializing in North African studies. Author of two books on Amazigh heritage.

Documentary photographer. His work has appeared in National Geographic and Le Monde.
We'd rather publish one exceptional 12-minute essay than ten thin listicles. Every guide undergoes rigorous research and editorial review.
We prioritize writers who have lived experience of the cultures they cover. Outsider perspectives have their place, but not here.
We don't treat culture as museum exhibit. We cover heritage as it exists today — evolving, contested, celebrated and passed on.
